The Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is located in the Lakhimpur-Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the finest examples of the exceedingly diverse and productive Terai eco-systems. The northern edge of the reserve lies along the Indo-Nepal border, which is defined to a large extent by the Mohana River. while the Suheli River marks the southern boundary. The area is a vast alluvial floodplain, traversed by numerous rivers and streams flowing in a south-easterly direction. It ranges in altitude from 110 to 185 meters above sea level. Together with Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary Dhudhwa represents the best Natural forests of the terrai region. With a total area of 2201 sq km – a core area of 1093.79 sq km and a buffer area of 1107.98 sq km, Dudhwa National Park is home to 135 plus tigers.
There are at least 37 species of mammals and 16 species of reptiles. Dudhwa National Park / Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is home to a large number of rare and endangered species including Bengal floricans, wild Boars, jackals, Leopards, Tiger, elephants and lesser cats such as fishing cat, civet, leopard cat and jungle cat. The Hispid Hare has been sighted in this area only recently. The herds of swamp deer are often spotted especially around the grassy wetlands of the Sathania and Kakraha blocks. Indian one-horned Rhio was reintroduced here in 1984 and the population has been slowly but successfully growing since then.
There are 400 species of avifauna. The reserve is abundant in water birds both local and migratory. There are bulbul, black and white-necked storks, painted cranes, and night birds such as great Indian horned owls, jungle owlets, kingfishers, minivets and woodpeckers. The avian fauna is majorly aquatic and can be seen around the lakes of Dudhwa such as Bank Tal.
Safaris at Panna National Park
Regular Jeep Safaris: Regular Jeep Safaris are conducted twice daily- morning and evening. The morning safari starts around 6 AM ( changes with season depending on sunrise) and lasts for up to 3.00- 3.50 hours. The duration of the evening safari is 3.00- 3.30 hours again depending on sunset.
Boat Safari: Boat safaris are offered in the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary of Dudhwa National Park. One gets a chance to see some rare avifauna and some endangered species of Indian wildlife like Gharial, Gangetic Dolphin, Magar, Python and more.
