Spiti Valley & Kibber

Snow Leopard, Ibex, Tibetan Wolf, Red Fox

7-10 nights

Nestled in the cold desert of Himachal Pradesh, Spiti Valley and Kibber village are part of the majestic Himalayan range, offering some of the most dramatic landscapes on earth. The Himalayas are not only a geographical wonder but also an ecological hotspot, home to several endangered species. Snow leopards, the elusive big cats, are the star attraction of Spiti, particularly in the winter months. Spiti is one of the few places where snow leopards are regularly spotted, thanks to the harsh yet strikingly beautiful terrain that forms their habitat.

The wildlife of the Himalayas is rich and varied, with species like the Himalayan ibex, Red Fox, Tibetan Wolf, Ibex and Blue Sheep thriving in this rugged environment. The region’s avian life is also notable, with species like the Himalayan griffon, golden eagle, and lammergeier soaring across the high altitudes. The area’s isolation and unique ecosystem make it a critical habitat for both wildlife and flora, with alpine shrubs, junipers, and the medicinal seabuckthorn scattered across the landscape.

In addition to its natural beauty, Spiti Valley and Kibber are gaining attention for their conservation efforts. Local and international organizations are working to protect the Snow Leopard and other vulnerable species through community-based tourism and awareness programs. Eco-tourism initiatives not only help safeguard wildlife, it also empower local communities by promoting sustainable livelihoods in a landscape that has been covered in snow for almost 6 months.

Snow leopards are often sighted in Spiti Valley / Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary during the winter months due to their seasonal movement in search of prey. As temperatures drop as low as 28°C (-18°F) and snow covers the higher altitudes, prey species like the Himalayan blue sheep (bharal) and ibex move down to lower elevations in search of food. This natural migration brings the snow leopards closer to human settlements, including areas around Kibber. The rocky, rugged terrain of Spiti also provides ideal cover for snow leopards, making it easier for them to hunt in these lower regions.

In winter, the snow leopard’s distinctive camouflaged coat helps it blend seamlessly with the icy, rocky surroundings, offering wildlife enthusiasts and photographers rare opportunities for sightings. This is why Spiti Valley has become one of the top destinations for snow leopard tracking in the Himalayas during the winter months.

A trip to Spiti Valley offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the rugged beauty of the Himalayas while supporting crucial conservation efforts in one of the world’s most fragile ecosystems. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, trekker, or nature lover, Spiti Valley provides a rare glimpse into the Himalayan wilderness, home to some of the planet’s most unique and endangered species.

Tiger sightings at Ranthambore. As always, Anurag's safari tours were excellent. The pickup from the airport (he arranges), the stay and food and the resorts he selects are superb. And to top it off, at Ranthambore this April, we also had excellent tiger sightings for most of the safaris. He along with the assigned guide knew where the chances of spotting a tiger would be maximum. We also had some very good sightings of sloth bears and other animals. All in all, it was a really excellent experience. Cant wait for the next time.....

Tiger Safari Excellence We're just back from another Tigerwallah planned trip into Ranthambhore. We maxed our time in India with 14 safaris over 7 days.We saw tigers every day and only had two runs without, one of which produced a Leopard in Zone 3 of all places. We also got to see some tiny cubs who only left their den earlier that week.Anurag knows this place like his home, and his relationships ensure he has the right information, the right guides and the right drivers. Which really does make the difference in your experience. So why go with anyone else? Just leave some availability next summer, as we're going back!

Immaculately planned and managed safari trip with Anurag I went on a Photographic Safari with Bobby Jo Photography. She and Anurag (Tigerwalah) planned the itinerary and took us across India to five amazing game reserves. Kaziranga (Elephants and rhino and our first tiger!), Tadoba (tigers), Nagzira (gorgeous little leopard with blue eyes), Kanha (tigers and dhol), and Ranthambore (more tigers and sloth bear). And all the birds and deer, wild boar, we saw everything.Transport was via private cars, overnight trains, internal flights - comfortable and efficient. Accommodation was in lovely, authentic lodges - none high end or overpriced, and all with air-conditioning and WiFi, and beautiful food.Anurag is the most organised, efficient, and connected person I have ever met 😀. He smoothed our way through airports and train stations, restaurants and hotels, calmly guiding, hosting, and predicting our requirements. He also knows all the Gypsy drivers and safari guides/naturalists in all the reserves. And he has a lodge in Ranthambore and was our safari guide on our 5 drives through that reserve. We ended our incredible India experience at the Taj Mahal. Which was everything ♡I cannot recommend Tigerwalah highly enough. Just get hold of Anurag and let him put in place an amazing trip for you.

Well organised and responsible safari After researching numerous safari companies, I chose Tigerwalah based on reviews, competitive pricing and on the excellent communication from Anurag for our safaris in Ranthambore. He explained the process in detail and the booking process was smooth. We decided on private jeep safari tours for maximum chance of sightings we booked 3 safaris. Anurag arranged for us to have the same guide for all 3 drives. The protocol in Ranthambore is that drivers are allocated on the day on a roster basis so although the driver changed, it was beneficial to have the same guide. We were in Zone 1 on the first morning, Zone 2 on the 2nd morning and Zone 4 on the afternoon. We were extremely lucky to have very close encounters especially on the 2nd drive where the tigress Mahi was a mere 3m away from our jeep. The guide was helpful , informative and respectful of these animals. I would highly recommend Tigerwalah!

Great Experience! Tigerwalah provides excellent service. Anurag and Shivani helped us plan our trip to Kanha and Pench, while Irfaan, our driver, was not only experienced but also one of the nicest people we met. This was our second trip with the Tigerwalah team, and we know it won’t be our last. I highly recommend the Tigerwalah team for an unforgettable safari experience.

5 stars Our experience with Tigerwallah for our trip to Jim Corbett National Park was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we booked, their team ensured a smooth and hassle-free experience. The stay arrangements at The Golden Tusk were excellent—comfortable, well-maintained accommodations, great hospitality and exceptional food (the highlight of the property for me!) . The location was perfect, just a 5 minutes drive to the Jhirna and Dhela gates. The highlight of our trip was the safari, which was well-organized by Tigerwallah. They provided experienced guides and knowledgeable drivers, enhancing our chances of spotting wildlife, including the majestic Bengal tiger! The team was professional and ensured that everything—from permits to transport—was taken care of.If you're planning a visit to Jim Corbett, I highly recommend Tigerwallah for their seamless service and well-planned arrangements. We had an unforgettable experience, and we’ll definitely book with them again!
